I'm watching the CNN series "The Eighties". This episode is about music. It is a constant stream of dead, dead, one hit wonder, dead, dead star, superstar, dead, dead, who?, star.
My muscial tastes were formed in the early 70s (I try to block out disco though). The 80s had Queen, Michael Jackson, U2, Madonna, The Police, Prince, Whitney Houston, Phil Collins, David Bowie...
Most of my likes were formed in the 60's & 70's. Folk, Jazz, Kinks, Airplane/Starship, Queen, Heart. First part of the 80's was good, then the power ballads hit.
I was just reading on Wikipedia about Madonna. Her first single was released in 1982. Her first hit was "Holiday" in 1983. And yes, she did play drums and guitar in 1979 for the band "Breakfast Club"
My 80s favorites were Queen, MJ, Madonna, Whitney, Phil Collins, Tina Turner, Cyndi Lauper, Billy Joel, Heart, Lionel Richie, REO Speedwagon, Stevie Nicks, Huey Lewis.
