tip
I never thought I'd enjoy being a mechanic for fancy German cars as much as I do. smile The week may have been long and busy, but I feel proud and accomplished.
I get the same feeling of accomplishment in my work too, and I'm proud to say "yea I did that"

It's been a huge confidence boost. I've overcome some fears of messing things up and I've been learning a lot on some of the harder aspects of automotive work...mostly electrical.

I can't say that about mine as much! I have my moments when I detest going to work...oh wait, that's every day haha...but I make the best of it!

OH I can imagine today's car's R all about electrical , back in my youth a tune up was a set of plugs, rotor, cap, points and every other year or 2 a set of wires.

Aww NBI...my job is one of the main reasons I love waking up in the morning. That and coming home and you beautiful ladies. wink

It's very true that if U love what U do u'll never "work" a day in ur life. The only part that makes it "work" for me is the home owners not the labor

Biggie, I've been at mine for 14 years...started it as a college job...got my degree 8 1/2 years ago and I'm still there!

Definitely, heydidya. This brand in particular can be electrical nightmares. Convenience and comfort come with a hefty price tag (and repair bill).

Wow, that's dedication, NBI. I've only been at my new job for two months now, but I think I may have found my niche.

I'm very familiar with German cars, I worked for a high end body shop, more then 50% of the clientele owned german vehicles MB's and BMW's mostly, but a lot of Porsche's too

Meh, biggie, not much else I guess

The owner of the shop became partners with a customer that was in import export. They acquired the sole rights to import 1 of the 2 German auto paints. I left the shop and became their national tech

That sounds incredibly awesome, heydidya. Body work and welding fascinate me.

Still a good thing, NBI. More than I can say about my past commitment towards things. I think I've found my calling though.

Incredibly so. Sometimes I feel a lot of it is needlessly complicated, but there's a method to their madness, I suppose.

I had a love/hate relationship with wheel alignments on a Mercedes... but once dialed in, they drive so sweet grin

I had a hard time the 1st week asking what they thought were dumb questions, till I got drunk with the head lab guy 1 night and explained that if the clear and the catalyst label says 2 to 1 ratio,

Hey biggie, there is great joy in making a machine perform as it should grin

some idiot will use 2 parts hardener and 1 part clear and I need to know what will happen and what to do to fix it cause I'm the 1 gonna get the call about it. The next day I was like a mad scientist

I must admit they let me do almost anything I wanted to and even documented it all. Measured it to the milliliter, time to dry, temp, air pressure sprayed at even measured the air flow

My main gripe (and most petty) with euro cars is why they use lug bolts instead of lug nuts. Ugh. I wish I had a third arm. That and torx bits. sad

yhat's the way the German mind works, I'll bet U the manual even tells U at what mileage to replace them, which is a lot easier then changing studs
(8 years ago)
damned ford trucks and their stupid "prevailing torque" threads.... I changed so many of those after stripping while changing tires

try getting a star lug lock off a recessed rim

I had a tool... and a hammer... or just bust the stud
(8 years ago)
I agree. I see the purpose of them. Just makes my life harder when I zap that last bolt off and the wheel decides to fall 3 feet down while I have an impact wrench in my hand.

Tried to PM you today, TWL, but out for the day. Miss you, gorgeous.
