puppies have a habit of fitting into your life to the point you wonder how you did without them. Ours did but they are a big commitment

Larger dogs don't live as long as Medium or small dogs Great Danes in particular often only live 6-8 years unfortunately

That's what I really want! I'm just afraid we won't be around as much as needed to love him. We are gone typically 14 hours or so on week days.

I know, Jacobite. I grew up with them though. They are so sweet and gentle. I love Earl, my parents' current one.
