Wednesday, March 1, 2006, 7:13:06 AM- Scripted's Blog

_scripted page_'s blog was asking why more people don't put up voice greetings on their profiles, and I a wrote a reply about not wanting to share too much of myself, etc., (if you're really that interested, go read it) because of some old leftover hangups from the Bad Old Days... I think maybe some day I'll do a blog about why I try so hard to keep myself self-contained, even now, when the Bad Old Days are so fucking far behind me...(Objects in the rearview mirror may be closer than they seem?)
But not tonite... I'm tired and kind of running in "just exist" mode at the moment...and since nobody ever really reads this shit unless they happen to see my name on the top of the Most Recent Blog list and I'm pretty much writing solely for my own entertainment, I'm deciding that writing anything more at the moment is no longer entertaining me....

Monday, February 27, 2006, 5:24:36 AM- Gracie's Blog

Reading Gracie's latest blog sort of inspired me to bring this up... She was wondering if we'd ever consider letting people here know of something about us that might make them think differently about us, that might totally change how they see us.
I have to say that, *any* piece of yourself that you put on the internet - whether it's a mostly blank msn profile, a couple of headless, anonymous pictures, or a blog with your innermost thoughts and personal details of your life - requires a hell of a lot of courage, and that courage deserves to be repected and honored. And, if even just a few statistical details added to your anonymous screen name is enough to deserve respect, then think of how much greater the respect due to those who go beyond that, who dare to forge their own internet "persona", however close to or far from their own real-life personality. I'm not talking about those ridiculous trolls who do nothing but set up a character solely to argue and stir up shit for their own entertainment, but the people who aren't afraid to say, "I'm xxx. I live (here). And this is what I think." They have their own heartfelt opinions, their own style, and it shows in what they say and write. This is where I am. People here on NN recognize my screen name, they pm me, they say hello in chat. But nobody here *really* knows what goes on inside my head, and my heart. I'm sure that alot of folks here would be seriously surprised if they really got to know me as more than an internet acquaintance...
And then there are people like Gracie, who put a much greater piece of their true selves out there for everyone to see. Who share with us the small details of their lives, and how they feel about those things. They open themselves up, exposing their vulnerabilities, their insecurities, and yet, somehow they're stronger than us, able to put themselves out there, to stand in the proverbial spotlight. Regardless of who's watching, who may have something to say about them, they still stand up and say, "I AM ME"... And we should, we have to, respect them for that. People that willing to give of themselves, share their joys and pain with us...But even more, for those of us fortunate enough to get to know them well, we come to love them... And when they share something new with us, when they let us in just that much more, no matter what that thing is, it only enhances how we feel about them, because whatever they share with us, we know it's a part of who they are, what makes them...them.
I've enver been one to trust easily, or to expect others to trust me...so when someone does trust me, has that much faith in me, I consider it a gift beyond price.

Wednesday, February 22, 2006, 7:08:18 AM- Finally Got A Headset For My Puter...

..After about eight years of being online, lol...
Yup, went out to Radio Shack and paid $20 for a headset. Actually, I did have one for awhile, a couple years ago, but I could never get it to work. So last night I got to actually *talk* to my friend in Oz, instead of just listening to her talking and having me type back to her...
Of course the first thing we talked about was my American accent...Damn, that sounds so weird..."American accent". smile So then I had to bust out my acting training, and do about seven different accents from different US locations, Canada and the UK...
Y'know, maybe one of these days, now that I've got the mic, I'll do a message on my profile - maybe some of the various impressions I do...

Monday, February 20, 2006, 8:10:05 AM- Great Day/Bad Day

Bad news first...

Okay, so I got into a "discussion" with an online friend tonite about our differing opinions as to the exact nature of our relationship, and that sucked... sad Not entirely sure if we're still friends or not. She got *waaay* too emotionally involved, considering I'm somebody she's only known for like four months and I'm 4000 miles away... And now she's pissed because even though I made thinly veiled statements and dropped hints about as subtle as bricks, I never actually said "I'm not in love with you"... I was about to say that any sane, rational person would know when somebody's obviously not in love with them short of actually having to say, "Hi, I'm Mark and I'm not in love with you."... but both the possibility that she's not all that rational sometimes, or that I may not have been as un-subtle as I thought I was (subtlety is an art form for me - I can get so obscure sometimes even I don't quite get the point of what I'm saying), are...maybe not likely, probable's not really the word either, but both possibilities are quite possible... gah..words suck...

<Sigh>... No they don't. smile At least not when I hear them spoken out loud by somebody I've only ever heard speaking twice before in the four years we've been "talking"... Good news... My friend Debbie from Oz msn'd me just awhile ago, and we did a video conversation cuz she wanted to show me some pictures. She had her microphone on, too... (I am sooo buying a mic tomorrow.) I love the sound of her voice, and her Aussie accent. And that 49-year-old woman giggles like a little school-girl. smile I so totally love that woman, and it's not in the least way a sexual thing - she just rocks. And I told her that tonight, too. I actually typed "You rock, kid.". You should have heard her giggling...she couldn't stop for the life of her. She blushed, and said, "Well, thank you...". Just talking to her for those five minutes made my entire night, maybe even my week. Anyway, I gotta get to bed now, fout hours after I set out to do just that... smile
...
...
..(Damn, that womans rocks...)... smile
...
... Lol.. okay, goodnite.. hehe...

Sunday, February 19, 2006, 1:29:59 PM- Time Zones SUCK!!!!!

So, I'm trying to get my ass onto a daytime schedule again, which was why I'd stayed up all day yesterday instead of going to bed, and finally went to bed around midnight last night. I set my alarm to wake up at 6:30am. So, what am I doing up less than seven hours later, after having been up for two days? Because I needed to talk to a friend in Sydney, Australia, and they're about fourteen hours ahead of me. 6:30am Sunday morning here is about 10:30pm Sunday night there... Lol - Yes, folks, I can calculate the time in Sydney, Australia, the UK, and anywhere North America without having to think about it much... "You've been chatting on the internet too long when..." hehehe...
Actually, I do it by associating times with people I talk to. When it's early morning here, Debbie in Oz is going to bed. But Tigs in England is just past her lunch. If it's 7am here, then the other Debbie in Toronto is just waking up at 6am, but Bonnie in Manitoba is still asleep for a few more hours...Assuming I managed to talk her into getting to bed at a reasonable hour, instead of having her fall asleep on me while we're talking, lol. She's almost as bad as I am when it comes to sleeping on a regular schedule. smile Falls asleep on cam all the time. She looks really cute when she's sleeping, though... smile
It's kinda rough having friends all over - usually, just when one of them is logging off for the night, another one is just logging in, and I end up staying up a hell of alot later than I wanted to so I can talk to them... Or, wake up really fucking early. I guess I'm just gonna stay up instead of trying to get a few more hours of sleep, since it's 8:30am as I'm writing this, and I wanted to get back on a daytime schedule by tomorrow anyway.
