Wondering now if "doing things online" has gone too far. I just renewed my drivers licence from my bedroom. No eye exam, no test, just "yes, that's my correct address, here's $40"...
Were eye exams ever compulsory? Here, I think it's only at a certain age.

And now your in cyberspace tongue

are "a certain age" and "senior moments",one and the same, roxey?
I get scared if I think about it. Not just risks but how dependent I've become.

Rox, since I first got my licence we always had a basic eye exam at renewal. Pretty much just read the eye chart, then a visual "identify the road sign" test.

Seems too easy.. Not questions about recent health status ?
Perhaps, lyn. I don't know at what age any eye exam is required. Might be 75 here? Certainly not 65, "the" age the govt starts calling you "senior".

lol, I am well past my " sell by" date wink
(7 years ago)
Hmm. Not here. Just basic health questions on a form that include one about needing eyeglasses.
tbh the more worrying thing is that there is no maximum age for driving here...

Sure, if you want to think of yourself as a commodity, Lyn. : P

That's the thing, lyn. It's not the actual age as much as realizing our reflexes decline with age and renewing such a license needs to take it into account.
The only health question asked online is "has your vision changed since you last had your licence issued?" To be fair, commercial drivers (like Tux) do have to take a physical.
We have a automatic requirement for a full retest after a certain age, and there are calls for the age limit to be reduced (uk)
yep, very true....but its still up to the individual to decide when to stop..
No other health questions?! Nothing about epilepsy, diabetes, strokes?!

licences are renewed very irregularly here ...its years and years

None Rox...and you have to be blind before DMV will even consider revoking a licence. My uncle had one way past the point where he was able to drive.

the glasgow bin lorry tragedy crystalized it all

Yikes.

Just Googled it, Lyn. : (

It's every 8 years here now Lyns. 32 years ago, it was yearly, then it went to every 2, then every 4 years. I'm now good until 2024
(7 years ago)
But lyns, can the individual be trusted to not renewing their licence ?
the guy was having blackouts for years but said nothing and was employed to drive a bin lorry round the centre of glasgow with traic consequences

*tragic

my point exactly, raven...as above^^^
needs a simple permission to see medical records concerning the ability to drive.
you are right but he told porkies...thats the point

but then again....what's worse than an airline pilot suffering depression?
