Tuesday, August 6, 2013, 2:14:44 AM- Joanne-Michael Nesmith
This is a sweet little tune by Michael Nesmith. The video accompaniment is nicely done. Anybody remember the Monkees? They did some cheesy stuff (it was the '60s, after all), but rang up a few really good pop hits. I used to idolize those guys. The '60s was quite an interesting time.

This is an oldie from 1971. Deep Purple live on Beatclub, a German television show. This is a good performance and surprisingly long...

This has long been a favorite of mine, especially this particular live version from Rainbow. This is rather long, but worth the listen. This is Rainbow at the peak of its run. Ronnie James Dio is absolutely stellar in his vocal performance and Ritchie Blackmore is, well, Ritchie Blackmore. This is directly off of vinyl. The video is actually of the turntable playing the record. When was the last time you listened to vinyl with all the pops and hisses?

Ran across this on Youtube. Great tune. A little off the beaten path even for me, but very enjoyable. Jon was the master of the Hammond organ and a fantastic pianist....

Saturday, July 27, 2013, 2:00:11 PM- Humor
As some may have noticed, I have a somewhat odd sense of humor. There are many reasons. I basically grew up on British humor. Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, The Two Ronnies, Benny Hill, Are You Being Served?, among others. I am lucky to have had one of the best public television channels in the States that carried these classic British shows. One other reason is being short. I have heard some of the funniest short jokes, usually being the one they are directed at. I think one of my strengths is being able to see the humor in things, even when they are directed at me. I really enjoy heading someone off with a self deprecating remark. A couple of my favorites I have heard over the years:

What's it like having to do the discus throw to put your quarter in the coffee machine? (remember 25c coffee?)

What's it like walking through the maternity ward and having the nurses ask you 'what are you doing out of your crib?'

The last one is my favorite, and I have heard MANY jokes throughout my life. My sense of humor and openness have gotten me through some rough times. I can take any joke directed at me as long as it is truly said with no malice. And trust me, I can give as good as I get... wink

Tuesday, July 23, 2013, 1:56:45 AM- John Lennon-Love is real
The lyrics are somewhat dated, but carry the same meaning as they did 43 years ago. The music is simple, moving and beautiful. He's been gone nearly 33 years, yet his music still inspires and moves. I absolutely love this song.

This is a classic bit from Michael Nesmith's Elephant Parts video album. Man, I'm in a weird mood this weekend. Comes from being on call and driving around the countryside, I guess...

This one is offbeat. Even for me. They Might Be Giants video of Older. I just get a kick out of this short song. Ran across it by accident a few years ago. Now I'm even older...

Saturday, July 20, 2013, 2:34:38 AM- Cause We've Ended As Lovers-Jeff Beck
Here is a real moving tune, written by Stevie Wonder and performed by Jeff Beck on his Blow By Blow album. The whole album is an absolute masterpiece of musicianship and recording. This requires headphones to fully appreciate. If you're into guitarists and vinyl RECORDS, this is unbeatable on a half speed master. CD is good, but on vinyl there is a richness that CDs can't quite duplicate.Youtube has the album in it's entirety.
