I hate DST. For the first 24 years of my life, my home state had no DST. We were on Standard time, which meant no clock re-setting twice a year. After many years of sublime sameness, our outgoing Governor decided our state needed to be like almost (except for Arizona and Hawaii) everyone else. So he used his political party's majority and pushed our state into being like everyone else. The result? Massive complaining from the state's residents twice a year. Sometimes change ain't necessarily good. ~ | ||

... my favorite cigar. My brand used to be sold everywhere. Not any more, though. I've been to every tobacco shop in my town (there are quite a few) and no one carries my brand any more. I can buy them online, but nothing beats taking a stroll to the local smoke shop and buying one for the journey home. It's getting harder to be an old man with old man's tastes.  | ||

Memories... walking over the neighborhood to get candy. People used to give caramel apples and popcorn balls when I was a kid. The older kids would throw rotten tomatoes and eggs at cop cars and soap car windows. Hands freezing and face sweating from wearing a mask, you would get home with enough goodies to make you sick for a week. And most importantly, you didn't need adult supervision. Those were the days. ~ | ||

Next Sunday Daylight Savings Time ends. A few years back my state joined in on the madness. For years we didn't change, so we had the same time all year around. I personally don't like it, but what can one person do? And now congress is trying to pass a law to make DST mandatory all year, no changing clocks. I wonder if that will hurt the smart clock (of which I have two) business? At least the permanent change will stop the twice yearly griping about the change. Those people will have to find something else to gripe about. There's enough out there for them to gripe about, so that aspect won't change. ~ | ||
