Laid-back, easy going guy until my passions are aroused. I've been here 3 other times... I keep trying to get it right, I guess. lol

It's bad enough that it's Monday and I have to go back to work. When I got out of bed this morning, I looked out of the window and saw a couple of inches of snow on the ground. I'm NOT going to ask if Monday can get any worse, would you? ~

I was supposed to have Good Friday off from work. I was informed that because around 15 people are working in 2 out of 3 buildings (none in my building) of the 270 plus employees, I have to come in. The last time this happened (ironically on Good Friday), I was in and out in under 1 hour. A waste of both my time and the bosses time. Another reason (of many) why, when I decide to retire this year I will not be giving notice. I just won't show up... and not feel one iota bad about it. ~

.... I'm finally using a word I thought I'd never use. I have a three day weekend coming up, thanks to Good Friday, and I am GIDDY with anticipation. There. Another thing crossed off a long list of things to do. Never forget those small items. ![]()

Kids today (by that I mean anyone under 30) are still kids, they just have different circumstances to deal with. The younger ones that I work with are always telling me how much they wish they'd grown up when I did. I tell them to turn off their phones, disconnect from the 'net and only watch the three major networks and they can have an idea what it was like. The music was the difference. Today, I have a hard time finding out who does a song I like because so many singers and groups sound similar any more. To compare, listen to a song from the '50s through the early '70s and you can tell who the singer/group was. Everyone had a distinct sound. The Beatles led the way, changing their music with every new album and everyone else followed suit. Here's a sample of early Motown: Enjoy my little trek down memory lane. ~

I read today that Kmart is down to 3 stores in the U.S. now. They join Sears and Penny's as stores of my youth passing out of existence. As the old saying goes, nothing lasts forever. *** Saturday I went to Walmart to grocery shop, since it's only 5 minutes from where I live. Prices are up. I saw on the morning news that inflation is up 8% in the last year and it shows: My usual staples were up, which I understand, but I drew the line at the cost of a gallon of milk - $3.91 a gallon? No. So I instead drove back to the local Payless store (an offshoot of Kroger) close by my place. Their prices are a little bit higher on the average, BUT a gallon of milk is still pretty low - $2.19 a gallon. AND their shelves, unlike Walmart, are full. I'll pay a little more when I have a better selection. ~

| Sunday, April 10, 2022, 6:22:59 PM- Apples | ||||||
Pineapple? Originally from Brazil and Paraguay. Not introduced to Hawaii until the 1700s. Pineapple was the original name for the pinecone. Way back in the 14th century, botanists often called foreign fuits or vegetables apple, like a tomato was a 'love apple'. A potato was an 'earth apple' and a papaya was a 'custard apple'. One of the first writings of the pineapple was by English expolrer Captain John Smith in 1624, who thought it resembled a pine cone and using the at the time use of a foreign fruit an apple. So there ya go. That's why a pineapple is called a pineapple. Just don't get me started on where the name banana comes from. ~
