Wednesday, December 19, 2012, 2:28:27 AM- Want a good cause to donate to this holiday season.
Check out Let's Bring 'em Home.

It's a truly non profit grass roots type charity that purchases plane tickets for US service members who can't afford to come home for the holidays.

Every little bit helps and right now they don't have enough funds to purchase all the tickets that have been requested.

Also, if you have a friend or family member who is in the US military, all branches, and has leave time to come home for the holidays but can't afford the ticket, they can request one.

Ernie, the guy who runs the whole thing, does his best to get everyone tickets. I suspect, from things that have been said, that he has made up short falls in funds out of his own pockets in the past, not that he's uber rich or anything.

Check it out. www.lbeh.org

and give Ernie some traffic over at www.ehowa.com. Hell, the pic links at the bottom of each days post are worth the visit alone. LOL

Sunday, December 16, 2012, 5:18:16 AM- Read this today and had to pass it along.
The following quote has been attributed to Morgan Freeman but Snopes couldn't confirm it.

However, it doesn't really matter who wrote it, what matters is the truth it contains. And yes, I posted this in the forums too.

"You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why. It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single victim of Columbine? Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.

CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem."

Nuff said in my opinion.

Saturday, December 8, 2012, 4:31:35 PM- Christmas Favorites

I grew up with Mom, who was a HUGE Elvis fan, playing his Christmas Albums. I can still hear her singing along as she baked cookies or pies.

When she's over now at Christmas time I just pull up some of the King's songs on youtube cause I know she'll sing along. grin

"Oh why cant every day be like christmas
Why cant that feeling go on endlessly
For if everyday could be just like christmas
What a wonderful world this would be"

I wish it could. smile

Friday, November 23, 2012, 5:27:27 AM- The Holiday Season...
While the holidays are a joyous time, filled with family, fun, friends and food there is another side to them we often don't discuss.

Most of us have lost loved ones, friends or family, along life's journey and this time of year for me, always brings the loss home. It is during the holidays that we seem to miss them the most.

My wife and I met in September of 1990. She lost her Grandmother that year on Christmas Eve, so the holidays are always a tough time for her.

Less than 3 years later in May of 1993, 2 months before our first wedding anniversary, my aunt was killed in a car accident. Since then I've lost two grandparents (two had died before Mrs DC and I met) a uncle, a aunt and a cousin. During this time she lost another grandparent. I know death comes for us all eventually but sometimes it's hard, remembering the ones that have gone on.

My aunt loved to sing, and could she ever sing! She had a voice like an angel and we all loved to listen to her. She'd sit at the piano in Grandma's house and play and sing and we'd all stop to listen.

In 1994, a year after my aunt was so tragically killed, Vince Gill released a song he wrote about the loss of a good friend, Keith Whitely, and his own brother. When I heard it the first time I broke down and cried.

As anyone who reads my blogs knows I lost a cousin this year. Another one missing from the table when we set down at Christmas dinner, and he will be sorely missed.

My eyes are getting a bit blurry now as it plays so I'll just post the video and finish this blog.

For all those missing someone this holiday season.

I know your life on earth was troubled
And only you could know the pain
You weren't afraid to face the devil
You were no stranger to the rain

Go rest high on that mountain
Son your work on earth is done
Go to heaven a-shoutin'
Look for the Father and the Son

Oh, how we cried the day you left us
We gathered round your grave to grieve
Wish I could see the angels' faces
When they hear your sweet voice sing

Go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done
Go to heaven a-shoutin'
Look for the Father and the Son.

Go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done
Go to heaven a-shoutin'
Look for the Father and the Son.
