If people did as the old saying: "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything." Think about how silent the airwaves would be, and how blank the comments sections on the internet. ![]()

I have lived in the same place for 20 years, come July 31st this year. For the second time, last since 10 years ago, I went outside to get the paper and locked myself out. Forgot my keys. Luckily, my neighbor came home 15 minutes later and let me inside. I forgot to add that it was 98 degrees today and very little shade. Holy crap! :O

Memorial Day. Honor the veterans who served. Some fought. Some died. It's not a happy day. It's a day to reflect and honor. My father served in the South Pacific during WWII. He never talked about his experiences. From what I found out from family (especially his older sister), it was a nightmare experience. Yet he never complained. His generation was truly, as Tom Brokaw wrote about, the Greatest Generation. I hope everyone will take a few seconds at 3:00 pm Monday for silent contimplation. God bless them all. ~

Another senseless case of a school shooting, the 23rd of this year and it's only May. The one was this morning in Noblesville, Indiana, just outside of Indianapolis and only 60 miles from where I live. It made me think back to when I was in high school in the late 1960's. We didn't have gun violence, we had race riots. The solution then was to lock the doors and have policemen patrolling the halls and searching lockers. We, as students, didn't like it, but it stopped the rioting. In our ever-increasing violent society here in the United States, we need to find solutions to this (among others) problem. Children raised in a violent society will become violent. Is gun controll the solution? I'm on the fence on that. I believe we have a right to own guns. I'm not in favor of taking guns away. To me, that could lead to a police state. I am in favor of stricter monitoring of who gets a gun. From personal experience I do know this: When I was growing up in the 1950's and 1960's, people owned guns, but didn't carry them in public. Only criminals did. A lot fewer people were dying of gun violence then, too. I'm just staing what I remember. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. ~
