My neighbor downstairs is a nice young lady.

She just graduated from college, has a full time job (not in her field yet, although she may get one soon) and has pink hair (hey, I'm not judging).

Sunday was the first time we've ever had to talk besides a quick hello.

She told me she's 100% Mexican, although if you saw or heard her last name you'd think she was French.

In her own words she told me she is: "as white as you can get without being an albino." She said that she doesn't tan, just burns then goes back to being lily white.

As I've said, I don't judge. To me, she's a nice person who's intelligent and has a good sense of humor, with a friendly, dazzling smile.

She told me she enjoyed talking with me. I told her jokingly that we're not BFF's yet, but we're on our way.

All in all, a pleasant way to spend a little time on a humid last day of spring.

As the old '60s song said: "Reach out in the darkness and you may find a friend."

The weather heats up and the AC in my car makes a knocking noise when I turn it off.

I've scheduled an appointment to have it looked into the 28th.

Luckily the weather will be cooling down for the next week.

As I get closer to retirement, little things pop up to slow me down.

Well, around here the weather is always interesting:

Yesterday, tremors were felt here from an earthquake, even though it was a small one, across the state from us.

This morning, we got about an inch of rain.

A fast moving front is bringing in 90 degree temps, with heat indexes close to 100 degrees.

More heavy rain anticipated for this evening.

Mark Twain once said that if you don't like the weather, stick around - it will change in 15 minutes.

Today, at least, that's very true.

I have long believed in the theory of multi-verses.

It would explain why, when I put something down in one spot, can't find it after a while and then it's back where I left it originally - like it crossed over somewhere and then came back.

The other night I had a dream where I was standing on the back patio of my parent's house talking to my younger brother while my younger sister walked by. Then my dad came out to have a cigarette.

On the surface, this vivid dream sounds rather boring.

But here are the facts of my family:

I have one sister, four years older than me.

I had one sister, older by two years, who died of pneumonia at one month old.

After I was born, my mother had two miscarriages, a boy and a girl, before she had a hysterectomy.

In my heart, I would like to believe that in another universe my siblings all lived.

Yes, I would have been a middle child, but there would have been a lot more fun, plus the younger brother I always wanted.

Imagination can be a wonderful thing sometimes.

Seems like every time someone in front of me on the road turned today they slowed to a little better than a crawl.

At least they used their turn signals!

Thought I got a good deal on some cotton sheets until they arrived.

The reason they were so cheap?

Only a flat sheet. No fitted sheet or pillow cases included.
