Blog Title: You HONEST opinion please........

Honest oppinion. Bi-polar is certainly a serious issue and the consequences of it going untreated (or poorly treated) are no laughing matter. However, we need to settle down on the moral outrage. The world is full of 7 billion people - we don't all act alike, think alike or behave alike. We need to get used to it. What offends one group of people another finds the humour in it - and some of those in that group who see the humour may very well be bi-polar. See, cuz bi-polar people are individuals too. They aren't the same. They have different likes and dislikes, interests, thoughts and ideas. How can "anyone" claim to speak for a collective of people who are themselves so diverse. It's stupid and this "group" think mentality needs to stop.

Besides - the best way to heal fear and phobias is to present it to the person. I think that most certainly needs to be extended to the greater sphere of life.

Life is hard man - you need to learn strategies to cope without. The pressures, the fears, the anxieties .. all the things that "trigger" ... you need to learn to face and over come ... not be bubble wrapped and protected from it. Why? Because that bubble wrapping is only on the outside (if it were even a possibility to do) where as .. the real issue lies within the person.

If a tasteless card in a store is going to trigger you - then you have a fuck ton of work to do on your pathway to healing.

For the record: where I've used the word "you" .. I mean "us" .. each and every single one of us human beings.

I agree with this:

"UK-based charity, Rethink Mental Illness (RMI), said the remarks were ?deeply offensive and insensitive?.
?It?s disappointing that Joy is selling a product that trivialises mental illness in such a flippant way ? but its subsequent remarks on Twitter were even worse,? said RMI CEO Mark Winstanley.
?Bipolar disorder is a serious mental illness which affects around 1% of the population, and it can be very difficult to live with.
?The last thing people who have the condition need is a company like Joy making fun of it in such an obnoxious and aggressive way.
?There is already so much stigma around mental illness, and comments like this just make things worse.?"

"They'll like it one min, hate it the next"

Come on ... that's funny as fuck.

The last thing that people who suffer from this condition need ... is to be lured into the thought process of "victimization". That's why I disagree with the statements this "charity" RIM is making here.

Now toot .. you copy and pasted a statement that you agree with - but is this explicitly your own personal opinion?

This is another concern I have around social issues these days - it seems to me that the majority of people are NOT thinking their own thoughts and ideas - they're merely just copying other people's thoughts and taking them on as if they are their own.

Pardon all my grammatical mistakes.

Whatever I say will be based only what I've heard or seen or read, so is anything I say every truly my own opinion or shared with others? Through life, we agree with somethings and disagree with others. What some people find funny, others will not. What some find offensive, others will not, what some deem to be racist, others will not. Not enough time, money or resources are spent researching or helping those with mental health illness and that needs to change.

How I form my personal opinions is to take all available information (both sides of an argument for example) ponder on the merits of each - go through the arguments in my head - arguing first for one side (how would I articulate an argument for) then the other side (how would I articulate my argument against) and drawn from that I form my own personal opinion - which is ultimately based on personal and real life experiences.

Ok - so you've just articulated something similar to me and we are in agreement "different people find different things funny". Which also means different people take offence to different things. In this specific case .. how valid is the "offence"?

"Don't be mad, take lithium". It never mentioned a specific group of ppl - in this case - bipolar ... it just referred to a commonly administered drug to make ppl "feel" better - which is often used for ppl suffering bipolar.

You also mentioned that better resources should be made available to these people. I agree. We need better support systems etc ..

However, that's not what this article is specifically about ... or is it?

If it is ... then it's a cheap, distasteful attempt from this "charity" organization to try and raise awareness for their causes ... based on what I see as misplaced and invalid "moral" outrage. Enough with victimhood. Put your energy and resources towards solutions. Anything other than that is a deceiving political scheme masquerading as "social justice".

Y'know Metal. How I cope with epilepsy, depression and something else that I won't mention here is via gallows humour.

I joke about my condition and have found my jokes about epilepsy (for instance) are more likely to offend those without the condition than those with it. Having a fit is a dreadful, frightening experence and I really resent the idea of anyone taking my coping method away from me or indeed those who cope in a similar fashion.

I find times where life is so dark and full of gravity the only way out is too understand how seriously it SHOULDN'T be taken. I found the line in that card funny. I understand the offence caused but the charity should not assume it cuases universal offence. Neirther does it have a monoply of on free speech.

My thought is simple... I can make fun of my family. Don't you dare make the assumption that you can too.
I can make fun of my illnesses it may be a coping mechanism but don't you dare.
Yes, they crossed the line in just that way and are extremely childish in their defense of it.
I would not support their cause.
