I've always been a big fan of Gordon Lightfoot. He played at the local university years ago and it was a memorable concert.

I chose to share this song of his because, like all good music, it invokes a pleasant memory every time I hear it.

The setting was this:

I lived out in the country alone and it was winter time. My girlfriend was away visiting family and I was missing her.

I put on this song and as I listened, I looked out the window to notice it had started to snow.

At that instant, the song gave vent to my feelings and engraved itself on my heart.

Even now, all of these years later, whenever I'm alone and see it snowing, I think of that girl and the moment I heard this song afresh in my mind.

Today I learned that the 1960s semi pop star Andy Kim had more than just a couple of hits.

But that's not the new thing I learned today.

I learned that it is possible to begin singing a song while standing between a woman's legs.


The old saying is that there's nothing new under the sun -

but I'm seeing more of the 'old' every day.

The two do not mix.

After suffering off and on with vertigo, I decided to make some changes.

There are exercises one can do to lessen and eventually stop the dizziness that comes with vertigo.

Trying to sleep with vertigo is the hardest part. Every time you turn over in your sleep to the effected side, you wake up dizzy and nauseous. Doing that several times a night is no treat.

So

I decided to keep doing the exercises in the morning and before I go to bed and to stop drinking.

I have gone two months without an episode now.

I miss having a beer or a glass of whisky occasionally and I had my first New Years in over 50 years without toasting in the new year, but it has been worth it.

BTW... non alcoholic beer and liquor is nasty tasting, in case you wanted to know.

You set something down, walk away and when you come back, it's gone.

So you look everywhere and can't find it.

Go back to where you started and it's there again.

Socks supposedly disappear in the dryer.

I think they go to another universe to be matched up for another me.

Just another cosmic joke?

When I was a kid, Rock and Roll was in it's infancy.

Bill Haley and the Comets, Buddy Holly & the Crickets, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and DooWop ruled the airwaves.


Then the Beach Boys brought us Surfin' Music.

But the biggest change came with The Beatles. They put out 12 albums, changing their style with every record and rock changed with them.

Just about every style of music we listen to today sprang from those changes in style (even Rap - listen to 'Rocky Racoon' sometime).

Today, I just felt like going back to my roots.

To see where you're going, you need to see where you've been.

Class dismissed, kiddies.
