Today I took my car in for service. I had my 'crankshaft position sensor' replaced. They told me yesterday it needed to be replaced. So I went online to see just what its' function is and how much it should cost. Prices went from $27.00 to $98.00. I paid $48.00 for mine. I found out that it serves the same purpose as a fuel filter on my first car, a 1964 Chevy Impala SS. The difference now is that it runs through a bunch of computerized circuits to do the same job. When I estimate how much something will cost, I go by the 10x rule: Whatever something cost when I was growing up, it's generally 10 times more today. The fuel line filter cost me $5.00 in 1975. The sensor today cost me $48.00 That's about right. ~ | ||
