Infinity would be a truly fearful concept, yet the irony - as Schlegel put it, was that 'man is a finite being striving to comprehend an infinite and hence incomprehensible universe/reality.' The notion that we can conceptualise 'infinite' is flawed but we have fear and God in there right away. Schlegel's observation was a great comfort to me; don't worry, there is no reason to be afraid of something you cannot possibly imagine or comprehend, so don't even try. I'm happy with the idea that 'God' wouldn't want us to be wasting our time in this way. 'He' is unknowable. Enjoy the ride!
