People need to learn that freedom of speech does not include libel and slander.

Since the rules changed. I have been in full support. It was what has been needed for a long time.

Well Said "), Thank You NN!!
19-May-08 21:27:31
*nods* been waiting for a rebuttal... excellent points, NN

I agree with the changes and it is obvious that they were necessary. The mistake in all of this was waiting so long to do what was needed. I believe that it could have been done long ago with a silk glove and have been universally accepted rather than wait until there is major turmoil going on and appearing heavy handed. And yes, people need to play by the new rules or abstain.

Well said NN, and I am glad the rules are being enforced, everyone will get used to em sooner or later.

Agreed you can delete threads because as you said it is a business however deleting threads that are an attempt to inject some humor back in the forum is unfair

"Freedom of speech doesnt mean you can say what you like on NN. It means you are entitled to start your own site and say what you want on it"
Amen to that !
When a forum becomes a constant battefield the fun drains away.

NN, I am behind you 100%
19-May-08 22:40:36

It's a sad day when you have to justify yourself to supposed adults. Kudos on running this site and managing it well despite the cries of a few. Now.. let's get back to what it's all about.. hot amateur nudes!

now can i talk to someone about me banning and what is going to happen,i dont like to bring this up on a blog but have been waiting for a reply from support to inform me of what is going on.

I can't believe I missed this blog. In the 5 years I have been here I have never been given any reason to doubt what you and that is a collective you (NN, NN-J and support) have done. In fact more often than not I have seen you be extremely patient with and supportive to your members.
You are right, this isn't the first time there has been upheaval but this is the first time I have seen such a wide spread belief in so many so called conspiracies.
Perhaps the most interesting of all is the "mass migration" away from NN.
This site existed before many of those members, this site endured other "catalysts" and this site continues to grow and it will with or without them. Good times will return.
NN isn't throwing out the baby with the bath water but some house keeping was in order.

sure, use your discreyion, just don't expect people to accept it when you're deleting threads willy-nilly (or is it because they call attention to the recent rash of bannings?)

I signed onto NN coming from another site which shoved lots of BS even into the face of paying users. NN seems to be way more relaxed and focused towards user experience, which is a fun fact to see and to compliment on.

The way how a company decides to deal with user complaints ultimately will decide on whether you're successful as you could be or not.

Plenty of sites are constantly growing, which makes it easy to take wrong guesses in believing growth is an indicater of doing all things right.

And there's the risk of growth and money shading people's views on things. Stating facts as facts and assumptions as assumptions is a good thing if you want to be understood right.

Taking a simple line of your text it becomes obvious why people might oppose your words:

> We make decisions in the best interests of the majority

Fact is: If you didn't ask beforehand you just _assume_ acting in the interest of the majority. This is a noble goal, indeed.

And if you state

> what we do remove is removed for good reason

there's a simple thing to do to show your users you're doing it for the 'good reason': Name the 'good reason' and comply with a set of preset 'good reasons' so you don't behave as if censoring at will.

Web sites nowadays are community driven. Think about technical means to empower the users to keep the website tidy themselves...

So, after sitting on your hands for an eternity then trying to close the barn door after the cows got out the forums are no better and those who left feel no reason to come back. I still think being proactive would have worked but since what you did didn't work, what next?
Just keep pretending this is the product you were trying to deliver?
