Abe was a good man...and he makes good "cents" ;)

I'll stand with you in tribute to those that have fought and died for our freedom. But I refuse to stand for those that now live in this country...and still do not know that the price of freedom isn't free.

I'm jealous...We don't have a museum like that nearby.

What vb said and those people then wanted the same things and the same goals (ie to learn english) now they just want our freebies and the things we can do for them.

Definitely food for thought.

Was it really that noble? One could argue that he had it printed up in the language of the immigrants because...well...they were voters and it was a 'marketing' campaign. Take for example his view on slavery vs. his view on black people in general. Abe was totally against slavery, but he didn't feel blacks should be held equal to whites either. He originally thought it would be better to abolish slavery and then send the blacks to Liberia or the country they came from (why did he pick Liberia?).

"I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races - that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And in as much as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race." - Lincoln

"Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation actually freed no one. He did not free any slaves in areas of the country controlled by the federal government. He freed only slaves in areas in rebellion, precisely where he had no control." -Lincoln and Freedom (book)

Now you'd think that I am debating against you. When in reality, I am agreeing with you. Lincoln is exactly the type of person that makes us Americans. Even though we have difference and don't agree on everything, we can set that aside and work, live and play together.
