in my life I have avoided funerals...that 'last' chance always seemed like a chance I had already missed. I went to my father's. I am the end of that line, and mom needed me. I have to say, for some it is comforting. For me it was a painful reminder of a million missed chances. Stay strong little one. Let him help.

I'm with you Krick, when my Dad passed away, I wouldn't go and "view" him. I preferred to remember him alive, happy and healthy XXXX

Krick, your feelings are natural. I have had the same feelings too. I found that seeing the person laying there in peace had a calming effect on me.

I too broke down days afterwards and cried and realized I miss them. Then I would know they were a treasure in your life and was a privilege to have had them in your life.

I am glad meanie is there for you, he is a good man and will be by your side.

I am so sorry for your loss ...peace be with you.

My sympathy for your loss. I am glad you have someone to lean on. I do not understand viewings....how they help anyone. Nor do I want anyone viewing my dead body someday!

I know that people say those things because they are nervous. Maybe this will help crack a giggle or snicker.

When my Sister G died, of course we went to the wake. All of us girls approached her casket and the older of us, Sister J said "What the hell did they do to G's face!! WTF!"

G never wore makeup a day in her life and there she was with big brown eyebrows, eyelashes covered in mascara and blue eye shadow. I know they have to put the make up on, but just some face paint and blush would have been best. We walked away giggling and Sister M blurted out "She looked like a tranny"

People thought we were nuts, but it broke the ice.
