Wednesday, January 22, 2014, 4:28:47 AM- Isn't Technology Wonderful
Well shit, the good news it wasn't the network. The bad news is, at minimum, the system disk is starting to fail. Which, when you put all your critical shit and backups there, is bad. I don't really have the money for new hardware right now, I'd much rather spend it on lingerie and sex toys.

It's a good thing I basically know what I'm doing (until something breaks, then I didn't), so I don't get duped into shelling out for this:

Morning wasted on network connection problems. Fucking bullshit!! I know all the time I've spent is wasted and I'll go away for lunch and the problem will be gone with no evidence of what the cause was.

Saturday, January 18, 2014, 9:27:00 PM- This is actually true

My wife has to get her jaw set by the chiropractor all the time, she gets feedback like, "have you had anything hard in your mouth for an extended period of time, like a jawbreaker?" Having her be in the kind of pain that requires a $40 chiro adjustment really puts a damper on oral activities.

She also gets asked what she's been doing with her legs and hips because they are always out of place.

It sounds like I am bragging, and I am maybe a little grin, but mostly I just think she's flexible and easily gets moved out of place...

Monday, January 13, 2014, 5:21:39 PM- In which I bore you with my coffee habits
One thing people tell me when they get to know me is I know something about a wide range of subjects. I try to know a little about everything and to be an expert about very few things. The Internet has helped in this regard.

It's 9 a.m. here, time for work, and time for coffee! I like my coffee dark with some half-anf-half and Splenda sugar substitute. I make a 16 oz cup every morning and start from there, usually that's all, sometimes one or two more cups. I like to use a Splenda packet for every 10 oz. coffee, which I've cut in half compared to how I used to pound that shit. smile

I've tried a lot of brewing methods at home and my go-to method is this one: http://coffeegeek.com/guides/howtouseapourover. French presses are also nice but too messy to clean-up for my (lazy) taste. Always buy whole bean and grind my own in a Cuisinart burr grinder.

I am kind of a snob about coffee, but not anything approaching foodie levels. Basically, I don't like to drink crap or weak coffee but generally drink from mass-produced, corporate coffee beans. I don't have the time or inclination to roast my own or hunt down beans in small batches from corners of the earth.

I am currently drinking Bali Moon beans from Coffee Bean, a gift from my wife. It's pretty good. My usual bean is Major Dickison's Blend by Peet's, particularly because Costco has it in 2.5 lb. bags. smile I rather like Starbucks' Caffe Verona, even though I know it's a blend and coffee snobs think it's shit.

My general stance on Starbucks is it's alright, it is much-maligned by snobs but when you are in a foreign country where they don't drink coffee, or even in a corner of America where that's all you can get, you know there is a certain level of quality and consistency you are going to get from Starbucks.

Last note is on decaf coffee: the process to remove the caffeine unfortunately also removes most of the flavor. I have tried a bunch of different beans and most of them are fucking terrible. I am working my way through a pound of Illy decaf espresso, and it's alright. Again, I like Peet's Decaf Major Dickison, recommended by a colleague. I go into the store and buy little 1/2 lb. batches because buying it in the store is pretty costly, and I usually only drink it a couple times a month.

So there you have it! Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Monday, January 13, 2014, 6:00:37 AM- Howdy
I'm bored so I'm starting a blog. I can't promise to have any unifying theme. Looking a few blogs over, it seems like that is part of the charm.

I hope that if you are bored enough to read any of my posts, you find them informative, or funny or whatever they were supposed to be.
