Oh dear. I've created a monster. The Spawn asked if she could play with the oil paints. She's hijacked my easel, brushes, paints, canvas ... heck, the whole spare room! lol

All good though. I hear her in there singing away while she paints, so I know she's happy. Can't grumble too much about that.

Tomorrow I can do final highlights on the painting. While I impatiently watch the paint dry, I'm getting some more canvases prepped and starting the first few steps on something for the Spawn.

A wonderfully kind man who many of you know has very generously agreed to allow me to use one of his photos when I'm ready to try doing a landscape. I only hope I can do it justice. The hardest part is narrowing down which photo to choose as each one I look at is more beautiful than the next. Decisions decisions!

It's been a good weekend. Poohbare and I decided we needed some downtime together - him from the shop and me from dealing with Mom and being imprisoned in the house.

We saw "The Monuments Men" last night. Good movie and great cast. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Today we went to the casino for a few hours and played the slots. We're not high rollers and are just there to kill time and have fun. We get just as excited over winning $5.00 as $50.00. I walked out with exactly one cent more than what I start with, so I call that a win.

Well, THAT didn't go as planned! Didn't know that darkening yellow with black would give me a sickly greenish hue when put on the canvas. oops. Just finished adjusting all the shadows to cancel out the green. *grumble grumble* Now I gotta wait for it to dry before adding the lighter areas. *grumble grumble* Then wait for that to dry before adding highlights. *grumble grumble* It's coming along; I'm just impatient.

Thank you for your suggestions. I settled on a kinda muted burgundy-ish color for the background. In my heart I wanted to go with a deep royal purple, but I looked at a bunch of samples of pics online and it just wasn't gonna work. boohiss

HUGE dilemma. I'm ready to do the color layer... but what color??? I'd decided on a pale yellow rose... but the background has me stumped. Suggestions? (If you don't know what I'm talking about, please look one blog down.)

Oy vey! Well, I got the grey or "dead" layer done. I think. It looked all blended, but my eyes were getting so blurry I put on my glasses... and saw a bunch of stuff that still needed worked. oops lol

I corrected a couple of things that were bugging me and now I gotta let it dry for a day or two before I start adding in color. I'm real curious to find out what I'll choose. Lots of options.

Yeah...so... I previously mentioned I'd been messing around with oil paints; however, I was just winging it and had not bothered to find out the "right" way to do things. While pleasantly surprised with the results I was getting, I want better.

This is what I did a couple weeks ago (the one I mentioned my son called "dibs" on). The pics kinda suck cuz there are glare issues. *shrug*

I found an absolutely fantastic site with step-by-step instructions in several different styles of painting and am now working on a practice canvas. I've got several layers yet to go. It's riddled with problems, but I'm more focused on technique than composition. I'm over the moon happy with how it's going thus far. I don't know how it's happening... it just is. Magic? Perhaps.

Yeah....so.... I'm gonna be turning 50 in a couple weeks, but I still absolutely REFUSE to become a grown-up. Cuz grown-ups are icky. ANYway, I was at the store today and as I went past the lingerie section... ok, technically it was the comfy pajama section... they had footie pajamas. With stuffed animal faces on top of the feets. (Yes, I said "feets."

And they were clearance priced at 75% off the original price. And they had some with polka dots. You see where this is going, right? I mean, it would have been foolish NOT to buy them!

They make me very happy. Apparently they make Poohbare very happy, too, cuz I keep seeing him looking at the feets and then he laughs.
