tommygirl's blog post - great weekend.....

I played in the beautiful northland of Ontario this weekend, as I do most weekends from May - October. I debated staying home cause the weather was not supposed to be great....and it wasn't but I still had a very enjoyable weekend.

We visted the town docks at Parry Sound. It was their annual tug boat festival so it was interesting to see them up close....we even boarded a few and had a look around. Interesting to say the least. We also had opportunity to see 2 tall ships that were docked their for a few hours while the Island Queen (a tour boat) was out for their afternoon cruise. What was interesting about these ships was the fact that the crew were all aged 13-18. What an incredible experience for youth. Needless to say my son was in awe of this.....he is counting the days till he is 13 so he can go. I looked online and the cost ranges from $800 - $1300 for 1 or 2 weeks aboard. Costly....but wow....imagine....

Yesterday it was warmer but still a little overcast so we headed to a wildlife centre. This was not a zoo but rather a place for injured or abandoned animals to nursed back to health and then released into the wild. A handful of the animals will never be released because they are too tame, or too ill. They have a female lion that has been there a number of years now. A 15 yr old girl bought her at auction and when she got bigger decided she could not keep her.....well duhhhhhh what was she thinking. My X got mad at me when I brought home a puppy pffffttttttttt!!!

A good time was had by all. Gearing up now for the labour day long weekend and following that.....school begins yeahhhhhhhhhhh!!

TG...dreading work today but also thankful for time well spent with her wee ones!!
