thebody2nv's blog post - Which way will the wind blow?

Tuesday, January 2, 2007, 10:06:33 PM
The forum is cryptically quiet today. I think after all the spankings that went on yesterday, and a few today, There is a big change in the air........sniff,sniff(sorry Kittenmmm,it's not you this time) can you smell it? I can't quite gauge which way it's gonna go yet, Too soon. Oh but trust me, I think in a month it's gonna be a whole new world..................I just hope it's a friendly one......................

For those of you that read me regularly, an update on the man that collapsed while training. I talked with the club it happened in,was told he tore his aorta?? In all my years I have NEVER heard of such a thing. Now knowing that a main artery can pump up to 30 pints of blood in a minute, and the human body holds, I believe, 8 pints. Imagine what the aorta pumps, then think how small the tear had to be or this poor man would have died almost immediately. I was told they repaired the tear and, as of Monday, he was in intensive care but they think he's gonna make it!!! I'd like to hear from an MD,to tell me how uncommon this is.

not a MD.. but my father died of it. The tear went from his heart down to his leg.. too long for any doc to repair it with by-passes. He was told to live with a time bomb, it can be ok for the next 20 years but can totally burst within a second..it depends on the blood pressure and how many skins (there are 3 thin ones covering the aorta) are damaged, the less power they have to hold the pressure. He lived with this knowlegde for 4 years.. his *luck* was, it happened within a second, no pain at all. .. the medical term is Aneurhisma (probably not the correct English speeling though) and it can happen to any artery or vein in your body.. close to the heart or brain is quite common though. So this guy at the gym was very lucky to get help that quickly.

believe it or not I knew someone that had this happen. He was at a club playing darts and suddenly felt poorly. He decided to leave immediately and by the time he reached his car he had decided he needed to go to the hospital. As luck would have it a hospital was close by. By the time he got there he could no longer speak. Amazingly they figured out what was wrong and rushed him to surgery. He made it but just barely. He was actually back to his old self in a fairly quick amount of time. It may have been his age too. He was in his 20's.
