First of all, thanks to all those people who have commented on my blog the past few weeks and months, and who have shown support when it was needed. As for the title of my blog, it's just a thought that pops up sometimes. You'd think that if someone tells you you have talent, it's a good thing, right? I used to think so, and it used to boost my confidence. But as time passes, I find myself resenting this phrase, as it seems to indicate something unfulfilled, something incomplete. You're talented (but you haven't found your own voice yet). You're talented (but you need some formal training). And so forth. Like a rough diamond that still need to be cut. Or a fabric that still needs to be woven. I don't want to be talented, I want to be accomplished. And when rereading this blog, I realise that most of all I want to be able to be confident in my abilities, instead of depending on others for confirmation. |
