"Aepyceros melampus" is a taxonomic name. According to Wikipedia, it is derived from four Greek words: "aipos" (high), "ceros" (horn), "melas" (black), "pus" (foot). In short, it is a "high-horned, black-footed" animal. It is a type of antelope native to southern Africa. The Zulu have a word for this animal: "impala". The animal, known for its swiftness, lent its name to a General Motors automobile under the "Chevrolet" division. ![]() It seems one, a 1965 "SS" type, was spotted on Thursday. Enjoy, Sheepy (and everyone else). ) |
