I have a bake sale coming up this weekend. I wanted to try to make these very cool looking cookies that I saw in a magazine. So, I tell Wolf..."look at these, they have to be real easy to make huh. Seems like a piece of cake but I don't feel like making the dough, let's just get sugar cookie dough that's already made...you know, like Pillsbury."

Friday night we both come home with cookie dough and Jolly Rancher candies. The theory is that you crush the candies then you cut holes in the cookies, spoon in some crushed candy and bake them. They should come out looking like glass. That's the theory anyway.

The first attempt has Wolf bashing the crap out of a plastic bag of candy. Thankfully I told him to wrap it in a towel first. Much candy on the towel, lots of holes in the bag, the candy does NOT come off the towel, big mess...candy dust everywhere.

We try to work with this cookie dough and it's not easy. Very sticky stuff, we can't find decent sized cookie cutters in my arsenal of baking stuff, I'm cutting the things with a knife...more mess.

We cook these. They come out in these horrible blob shapes with very chewy misshapen centers. The dog liked them.

We tried again using a slightly different technique...nah.

I broke down and made the cookie dough. Just prior to making it I realized I had no kosher salt. Off Wolf goes to the store to get kosher salt. This cookie dough is actually easy to make and even easier to work with. We create the cookies with the holes and spoon in the crushed candy. The first batch shows us that a little candy goes a LONG way and we should not bake them on the bottom rack. The pig will be happy.

The final batch came out pretty decent. I think we're good to go. I brought a few into work and the new guy braved the first one, my manager ate one of the others and was thrilled to death. I think he's thinking of selling them on e-bay. (this is a man who went to take a shower one morning and the curtain was missing because his wife sold it)That's key...always test the new stuff on other people.
