As I was driving back from the farm this morning I was struck again by the notion of how lucky I am. Particularly today I felt lucky to appreciate the great time I had in my late teens and early 20's. Those were heady days. Aside from the horror of aids it was a great time to go out and see and be seen. I'm sure every generation has their "moment" but this was mine so....of course it was the best. We used to go to a bar called "first avenue" A great giant old greyhound bus depot converted into a bar. Prince filmed purple rain there so if you saw that you saw the bar. Different bands every night. I saw U2 there when they where nobodies over here.It was everything a bar should be. And the best mix of people. Old and young, gay, straight. No problems. I hope this generation can leave their computers and ps3's long enough to have a time like this. They won't regret it. |
