d_ashley's blog post - planes,trains,bulldozers,birds and snakes??

Monday, May 28, 2007, 10:32:12 PM
I've been "hitting the rails" these past few days and so yesterday eve. I went back to continue on to this bridge in hopes of getting pics of passing trains and stuff but after only one wizzed by and that was it for the trains, I guess this was the last one in a hurry to get home for the hol. he,he. yet the eve. turned out be quite interesting. soo see what I came across while hiking the tracks. and I have more pics to share later. given the very high haze from the smoke from Fla. I had to do more editing than usual with these pics. funny how it affects the digital cam's lense.
----------------------------------------------------------------
this is a rather large biplane that was flying around the little airport that we have, and so If I'm not mistaken then these planes were used mainly by the air mail service as when it first got started, and so this plane is what I believe is the now infamous "upsidedown jenny" that was printed on the postage stamp by error. and are now worth a fortune to collectors. cool huh? smile

Hello! smile

Goodbye! smile

I believe that these are swallows. smile

these are their nest under this bridge. I'm fascinated and intrigued at how do they build these nest? as they appear to have been made out of mortar and pebbles of stone. while sustaining flight using only their beaks to build with. this is my first time seeing these kind of nest. wish I could get a better look, but I'm not into repelling. wish I was though. wink

ahhh da-snake! I came up on this impressively sized "kingsnake" while I was heading over to the bulldozer. he was getting the late sun and was about six feet in length. now I found one before some years back while working for a surveyor and so we stretched him out to measure and it was eight feet long, so for this one to be coiled/curved as it is here then this one would have no problem in reaching seven feet or more. you'd be surprized how much a snake can stretch. wink smile

nice markings. smile

I tried to stay behind him so as not to scare him but as I came around to get a face pic. he got alittle camera shy and left. he,he
now to give ya'll an idea of his size, you see the big rock that he's turning from is roughly three inches wide. so if you take three inches and start from his nose and follow back to the rock then your looking at about seventeen inches+/- [coiled/curved] and stretched then it would be about eighteen to twenty inches+/- there.

waiting on a train to pass. and never did. lol smile

mmmm the evening sun...through the haze smile

I have more that I will share. as for now the hol. weekend was great! I hope the same was true for ya'll. wink
