d_ashley's blog post - wondering about the lights...sat. 6:16pm christmas eve. [amended]

Sunday, December 25, 2005, 12:37:01 AM
have you ever gone and drove around to all the neigborhoods lookin at the lights in peoples yards? well I have as that is what we did when I was a kid. during christmas we would all pile up in the VW he,he and drive through the streets oooowing and aaaaahwing at all the splendid sights from the back of the little VW. and so it has been awhile now since my boy has all but growm now that I dont get out and look. but I do recomend to all of you "young" people who have little ones to try every year to all pile into the car and see the sights of christmas...its not too late to start now, so I pass this tradition on to ya'll.
ok I was going to the store last night and came up with this idea to share my thoughts about the lights as I couldnt help but notice a thing or two so here they are....
you know what I have come to enjoy the most about the lights are all the ones with caracters in the yard such as Mary, Jesus, three wisemen, ect..aaaand then came the sheep, mules, cows, you know the animals...all sitting around lit up from the inside with a single light bulb, and so we would oooow and aaaah at this scene...well flash forward to a few years back as in not now but did, I finally got my wish to recreate this same scene in my front yard...well at first I was proud of this scene as it lit up my yard and I would sit on my front porch if not too cold by th-way and enjoy as cars would go by slowly with all the family piled in the car that have come to see my yard and smiling with the thought of all the oooows and aaaahs that were being uttered. the feeling was good for me.
well heres the flip side to this story and so no one told me that these lights in these caracters goes out quite frequently and that I would be running outside in the freezing cold wet rainy night to wrestle with these dam things to get the lights back on. thus I would return to the house wet cold and miserable.
just so that all the kiddies wont be disappointed that little Jesus failed to show at his own birth.
and so for me I wanted my yard to be the best in all the neighborhood so then I began to add lights as in... lights to the house, lights to the yard, lights to the trees, just lights, lights, lights. and so then I would sit on my front poarch and watch as the cars all piled up inside would slow down to oooow and aaaaah at my yard. and so once again there is a flip side to this...in being that no one told me that on any given time if anyone of these light bulbs that I had strung all over Gods creation in my yard should go out, then the rest of the string will follow... and so once again here I go running outside in the freezing cold wet and raining to try and find this one or maybe two light bulbs that fail to shine...now this takes time people so imagine if you would a string of lights nailed to the roof of my house in the middle of the worst freeze in Georgias history wet and raining and Im on a ladder seeking this cotton pickin bulb that has failed to shine thus taking out half of the roof of my house, just so that the little ones wont be unsettled to see half a house.
and so as I continued to desire the ultimate yard in the world I added more...such as a santa clause that I felt should sit on top of my roof and since there was no chimney I wired the dam thing to the roof, and then I would sit on my front poarch to see all the piled up cars which were becoming alot now that would slow down and the little ones would oooow and aaaah at my wonderful yard. well there is a flipside to this as that I had not mastered the understanding of how to correctly tie down santa...thus when the wind would blow santa failed to remain at his post. and so I would go running outside in the freezing cold wet and rainning climb the ladder and then fight the worst wind storm in Georgias history just so all the little friggin rugrats!! would be happy to see that ol'saint nick hasnt been falling asleep on the job.
and yet I wasnt through with my yard, as I had but just a fewwww more to add to my yard...which has now become the yard sensation of the decade...so I added another santa which was quite rather large along with a snowman of equal proportion so that I could sit out on my poarch and watch the traffic jam of cars all piled up slowing to see my show. with all the oooows and aaaahs from within.
and so now you guessed it there is a flip side to this...in being that no one told me that there was a purpose for the enlarged hole in the bottom of santa and snow on which I later learned after running outside in the freezing cold wet and raining to catch santa and snow dancing all in the yard destroying the sheep the lights and ect...to the tune of... as the wind shall blow then we shall dance song. without the added counter weights that I was suppose to put in this enlarged hole, so that they could not dance to this tune. so that all the LITTLE SHITS!! would see that santa and snow arent really bad people after all.
ok so now the end of this story is that after all of these lights...and all of these caracters...once joined together in my grand display of a lifetime so that all the little kids all piled up in their cars could slow and oooow and aaaah at my now quite disturbing aftermath of caos and colamity[sp?] I just figured after giving some careful thought and consideration to say...fuck the little shits, I aint doin this no more!!!. and so when me and my ex went our seperate ways alittle after thanksgiving six years ago I left all that crap behind....sometimes I wonder if its all still there just waiting for me to return just so that all the little kids will ooow and aaaah again. what memories I do have about the lights. wink, wink. merry christmas all. David.
more on lights in the next blog to come later... wink
ps. all is true except my last thoughts on the kids as in f--k the little sh--s...I would never think that...yet I did give it all up though after the sep. thus leaving it all where it stood. in the yard.
