amancalledpony's blog post - A date that will live in infamy *updated*

Saturday, December 8, 2012, 5:48:25 AM
Seventy one years ago, the Japanese attacked the US Fleet in Pearl Harbor HI. It brought the United States into WWII. 2,402 US service people were killed, 1,282 wounded with 65 Japanese pilots killed or wounded. The meaning of today seems to be lost in the US. Most of the survivors are long gone. What used to be a reminder of the sacrifices some made for freedom is now another day. Schools don't celebrate it as the new generation of Americans have little idea of WWII, let alone the what the day means. And so it goes.............

And for anyone on here who lives in the East Bay - the light you might have saw is the search light on Mount Diablo. December 7 is the only night the light is lite to remind us of that day when America first lost it's innocence.

Pony, I attended a memorial on base. I did not forget. I also remember the day I visited the Memorial in Hawaii. It brought me to tears.

Unfortunately the modern generation has more recent wars to remember.

You and I both know that Len. But we know those wouldn't have been possible but for Pearl Harbor.

They should remember. In Australia we have Anzac Day to honour the diggers who made it and those who didnt. Its a public holiday with services and marches in nearly every town..... Then down the RSL to play two up.

On that day, planes came out of the morning sun to wreak havoc on the complacency of this country. Three months shy of 60 years later, it happened again. History does repeat itself. I have not, and will not, forget what happened on this day. Thank you Pony, sir, for this dedication.
To follow Lenny's train of thought, the attack on Pearl Harbor is either forgotten or is taught by revisionist theory anymore, like so many other things. Tis a pity.

I don't remember that day because I wasn't here yet but from what I have seen I can never forget it either. You guys might think I'm crazy but when I see all the Japanese cars on the United States of American roads, it burns.

Even when I was in school, Pearl Harbor was barely mentioned in history classes. I guess modern educational theory is to avoid war by not teaching the causes behind it. Luckily, two of my uncles were WWII veterans....one parachuted into Normandy on D-Day and the other served in the Pacific on the USS Hornet and the USS Yorktown. I did get to hear the history of that time from those that lived it.

The Japanese commanders later regretted what they had done to a big country.
