tip
My 20+ year old watch finally croaked, so I went looking online. The same watch I looked at for $300 at a local jeweler was $150 on Amazon. Internet-1, retail store-0
My previous Seiko lasted over 30 years and I found a good replacement online too. smile

I actually started counting back and this one was 29 years old.

Is it worth trying to fix?
It would be minimum $300 to repair...so no, not when a new one is half the cost

The jeweler I used to patronize would give free lifetime battery replacement with their watches. Alas, they closed last year.

My brother has several watches that cost over 4000 squids, Paneria, Rolex etc. I have a Timex roughty toughty watch that keeps good time, has been in the sea along with me...tick tock.

WOW

Why are some watches worth so much ?
Because some are handcrafted , hand made chronometers, things of beauty, but have added value because of the brand and how exclusive their makers make them, they are a status symbol.

If you park your two hundred thousand Porche outside, how can anyone tell you are a multi millionaire, apart from your wrist posing....

Many Rolex's are made with gold, that makes them valuable. Generally speaking, high priced watches are not a good value, but if that's what you like and it fits your budget by all means, go for it.

I love watches, if I won the lottery I would be guilty of owning several, I haven't so I go with something that tells me the time, after all...isn't that the point?

Exposing one's timepiece is a wonderful pastime. Sometimes I go all Flavor Flav with an open shirt and a plastic clock necklace.

Ever notice how few people wear a watch these days? Most have a smart phone, which tells the time very accurately, hence an expensive timepiece is an affectation: P

I have a couple of Mickey Mouse watches, one a Seiko and the other a Citizen that has the eco-drive.

I seldom wear a watch, don't like wearing jewelry.

Anything that used to be called 'Mickey mouse' Was considered below par, something not really any good... K?

I have this watch, didn't cost much but so cool: the backdrop is silver with a black dragon, and as the seconds needle ticks around it fades to completely black and back again.

Eats up a battery every three frigging months though.

I barely where a watch - but I do like the idea of one as a fashion accessory. I can appreciate the craftsmanship, attention to detail and quality of materials used.

I've worn one for so long I feel naked without one, and like has been said, I appreciate a nicely crafted watch. My dress watches have all been Citizen (the new one is an Ecodrive chronograph)....

...but were I to have the disposable income, yes, I'd have a Rolex and a few other Swiss high end models
(6 years ago)
How many wrists do you have, humper? Just curious ...
Quite a few...I'm really a horrible genetic mutant cross between a human and an octopus tongue

Fair enough. Not sure the high end swiss are a good idea, than. That could become costly.

Thus "If" I had the income. So far the lottery is being uncooperative sad
