I had a garden, once.

My water bill was double or triple what it was normally, for maybe a bucket and a half of potatoes and puny carrots and beets.

Gardening hobby over.

It depends. Get your soil tested or test it yourself.

Just do not fertilize it with your own crap like the Mexicans do. vomit

Water.
A science in itself.
What's in it?

Desolved Solids and Suspended Solids?

Ph?

Massive subject.

A favourite species of mine can't live on tapwater...

Water Chemistry is a massive subject.

Yep.

The garden itself was kind of fun. I gave most of the potatoes to a needy family, as I am not a terrific cook, and I already had enough for my own use.

But yeah, it was expensive. Potatoes take a lot of water to grow.

What is worse news is Washington state wants to used dead people for fertilizer. This is true, you can`t make this shit up. The liberals at it again.

Sickening. Reminds me of something from Soylent Green -- about as much respect for people.

That's a good idea, actually. Next time I try to plant potatoes or pumpkins (water intensive vegetables) I'll have to invest in a rain barrel.

My grandmother had a small bunch of tall pitcher plants, and I wasn't aware of their actual being pitcher plants until later in life. They didn't look exactly like the ones in picture books. They were very tall, and totally green (no red tinges atop the 'trumpets').

Very cool plants. I have yet to see a sundew, or a flytrap (in nature, at least -- took a small one home from a store and it died -- not enough humidity).

The only plants I do well with are the shamrocks in my window. They've actually survived more than a year. Two St. Patrick's Days and they're still alive.
