Managing photos from your phone - please contribute to this thread!
Hi,

We all have phones with great cameras now a days, and they also have large memory capacities too.

My questions are (please answer all 4)

1. Do you know where the photos you took on the phone you had three years ago are?

2. How are you backing up your photos today?

3. Do you ever go back and look at photos you might have taken with your phone say 2, 3, or 5 years ago?

4. Any apps (on the phone itself or on your computer) that really help with all this?

I would love it if you could answer all 4 of these questions!!

I'm a bit of an oddball when it comes to the camera phone. I don't use it for anything serious. (1) I haven't had it 3 years (2) I don't back it up. (3) On rare occasion. (4) n/a

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Yes, cloud storage, yes. Bix.com is my fav free app. You can invite by email those you wish & they can look but not touch so to speak unless you give them permission that they accept through email. It's perfect for he & I to surprise each other.

Only sounds complicated, it's not, really...
1. Do you know where the photos you took on the phone you had three years ago are?

They are on my computer, and many are on my iPhone. My iP7 has 256G. The previous model, iP4s had 64G and was very cramped.

2. How are you backing up your photos today?

Periodically, like every 6 to 8 weeks or so, the iPhone is plugged into the Mac, the camera roll is downloaded, and the camera roll photos are deleted from the phone. There are "smart albums" in the Photos app on the Mac, holding all the photos from each particular camera owned, since 2002. There is a Canon album, and four different iPhone albums.

Then when the iPhone is synced, all the camera roll photos come back onto the phone, into the iP7 album. And the camera roll is empty. Ready for new photos.

3. Do you ever go back and look at photos you might have taken with your phone say 2, 3, or 5 years ago?

The photos are the chronicle of my life. What did we do? When did that happen? It's all there in Photos. Currently about 16,000 images.

4. Any apps (on the phone itself or on your computer) that really help with all this?

The iPhone app & the Mac app are both called Photos. No cloud back-up, or cloud syncing.

Plus all the homemade porn is pulled off the iPhone to the Mac, almost immediately, and deleted from the iPhone with the app Image Capture. Vid clips are edited in iMovie. Images are cropped and exported from Photos, being sure the location metadata has been removed.

A Thinker
My current phone has an awful camera, but I knew that before I bought it. The camera was the least important feature for getting the phone. In fact my much older non-smart phones with far fewer pixels took far better pictures.

The pictures I took on my older phone are backed up on an external hard drive, but the ones that I consider more valuable, I back up on additional drives (not solid state).

I do look back at old pictures from time to time.

To back up I use the good old fashioned copy and paste.

1. Had Pc crashes with dead HD sad,
phones sold or discharged of have pics deleted
AND new nonsens pics (like a tv or wall) taken over them to prevent pic retrieving

2. Site hosting, cloud, dropbox, flash memory, ext HD

3. Happens smile

4.Not really using apps for it

My questions are (please answer all 4)

1. Do you know where the photos you took on the phone you had three years ago are?

Yes, altho I rarely use my phone for pic taking. I'm one of the strange people who prefer to use my phone for making phone calls and my camera for taking pics. smile

2. How are you backing up your photos today?

Onto my laptop and to an external hard drive.

3. Do you ever go back and look at photos you might have taken with your phone say 2, 3, or 5 years ago?

Yep, often look at past photos (not usually taken with my phone tho. wink

4. Any apps (on the phone itself or on your computer) that really help with all this?

Nope.

1. I've got literally over 32,000 photos on my phone, so most of the older photos I've taken from years ago are still there thanks to cloud backup.

2. I don't back up photos until I get a new cell, or get close to it. I have too many to back up, and it causes the cell to lag. I'll do it again this fall when I plan to get my next cell.

3. Yes, I scroll through many of the 32,000 pretty often actually.

4. I used to use Photoshop mobile (or whatever it's called) for cropping and color correction before the app got convoluted and, I think, pay-to-use. I don't use any photo apps now.

LOLOL. I've lost and replaced about 10 phones in that time.

2. How are you backing up your photos today? With lots of encouragement!

3. Do you ever go back and look at photos you might have taken with your phone say 2, 3, or 5 years ago?
See question 1.

4. Any apps (on the phone itself or on your computer) that really help with all this? Not sure, but I do know a guy.
