"oh this town
kills you when you are young"

Today I've been mostly laying on my kitchen floor, listening to this song on repeat, staring at the balloons I put up yesterday, missing her.

“if you don’t know what it feels like to have
someone you love
put a hand below your bottom rib for the first time,
what chance is there for love?”

Thursday, January 23, 2014, 9:25:44 PM- To This Day
"so we grew up believing no one
would ever fall in love with us
that we’d be lonely forever
that we’d never meet someone
to make us feel like the sun
was something they built for us
in their tool shed
so broken heart strings bled the blues
as we tried to empty ourselves
so we would feel nothing
don’t tell me that hurts less than a broken bone"

"and if you can’t see anything beautiful about yourself
get a better mirror
look a little closer
stare a little longer
because there’s something inside you
that made you keep trying
despite everyone who told you to quit"

Sunday, November 17, 2013, 7:37:05 PM-
Lately I've been thinking about how much I've changed this year.

I stopped waiting for things to happen, and decided to actively start doing them. I decided to start talking to people more, to seek advice, to ask questions, to share my experiences.

I have realised that I am allowed to want things. I can admit that I am fucking good at something, yet I always want to become better. I am ambitious, I am passionate.

I've learnt to feel comfortable in my own skin, because it's who I am. I've accepted that people love me the way I am, and they don't expect me to change, so why should I.

I've lost friendships, and while it makes me sad, I also realize that maybe it's for the better. Old habits die hard, and people aren't always prepared to grow with you, and accept the changes you've made in your life.

I've only recently met these people who have filled my life with love and encouragement. They've welcomed me into their homes and lives with open arms. They've supported me through some of the hardest decisions I've had to make in my life.

I finally have people in my life who I am not afraid to call in the middle of the night when I wake up suddenly and feel like I can't breathe. They aren't annoyed that I wake them up, but instead they tell me that they are here for me, and tell me soothing things until I fall asleep again.

I used to be the girl who wouldn't let people near, because she was afraid they'd hurt her. How could it take me this many years to understand that to live fully, I have to let love in?

"People always say that it hurts at night
and apparently screaming into your pillow at 3am
is the romantic equivalent of being heartbroken.

But sometimes
it’s 9am on a tuesday morning
and you’re standing at the kitchen bench waiting for the toast to pop up

And the smell of dusty sunlight and earl grey tea makes you miss him so much
you don’t know what to do with your hands."

- Rosie Scanlan, from “On Missing Them”

"I understand the missing of someone over tea. But for me, the tea was replaces with a simple meal of beans and weenies."

"We teach females that in relationships, compromise is what women do. We raise girls to see each other as competitors, not for jobs or for accomplishments— which I think can be a good thing— but for the attention of men. We teach girls that they cannot be sexual beings in the way that boys are. If we have sons, we don’t mind knowing about our sons’ girlfriends, but our daughters boyfriends? ‘God forbid!’ But of course when the time is right, we expect those girls to bring back the perfect man to be their husband. We police girls, we praise girls for virginity, but we don’t praise boys for virginity. And it’s always made me wonder how exactly this is supposed to work out because *laughs* the loss of virginity is usually a process that involves *laughs*…

We teach girls shame. ‘Close your legs!’ ‘Cover yourself!’ We make them feel as though by being born female, they are already guilty of something. And so, girls grow up to be women who cannot say they have desire. They grow up to be women who silence themselves. They grow up to be women who cannot say what they truly think. And they grow up—and this is the worst thing we do to girls—they grow up to be women who have turned pretense into an artform."

"If I had a son and daughter, I wouldn't have different standards for them. I think the biggest difference in boy/girl virginity is that for boys it can be difficult to lose."
