Monday, November 16, 2009, 8:36:15 PM- Bad Joke
Q: What did the farmer say to the butcher?
A: Every time you go away, you take a piece of meat with you.

Now, you'll never think about Paul Young the same way again. :p

Monday, November 16, 2009, 6:25:56 AM- On The Street Behind Where You Live

The one bit of autumn colour still present was this row of trees on the street running behind my house. I took this, and the one below, before running my Sunday errands (I got out of the house for four hours, which I was happy for), then came home and relaxed; had a meatball sub sandwich for dinner (had leftover homemade meatballs from the spaghetti I made on Saturday.)

The Thanksgiving holiday is Thurs, 26 Nov (the fourth Thursday in November). I get the Friday off from my employer, and I'm taking the three days before, so I will have one full week off to do nothing at all (except cook on Thursday).

That's all from me for now. Enjoy the photos, and thanks for reading.

Friday, November 13, 2009, 6:53:56 PM- Assbook
Now that we have the "Status" feature, that is what I'll think of NN as: "Assbook" (I credit onionbreath for suggesting that term two years ago).

For some who don't (or haven't, or refuse to) use Facebook (or MySpace or Twitter), this change might seem unwelcome and unfamiliar. For others who do, there is either an "about time" reaction, or something akin to my first thought: "Oh no."

This is not a bad thing, though, the Status feature. I know for me it will allow me to express a thought without blogging (which I will save for deeper platitudes. As though I have any deep platitudes. Ha.)

The one flaw I see, and something that *other* Social Networking Site has, is the linking. When someone does a status, you can go to their profile from that status page. I would like a future tweak to at least include that ability. If someone I've never seen before (or a friend who I've seen before) updates a status, I'd like to be able to click a link and go to their profile without having to go to the Profile tab or thumb through my Friends list.

**EDIT: Apparently, there IS a link to profiles now. YAY! That was fast. :p

For those who truly hate it, you can indeed turn them off. For those who like/love it (I actually do), then embrace it. For those who aren't sure yet, give it time and play with the feature until you know.

Now, if only they would work on SEARCHABLE PM INDEXING!!! *ahem*

But, I won't jinx things. Thank you, NN and NN-J, for the interesting change. :)

Thursday, November 12, 2009, 7:36:53 PM- Yes, *Him* Again
Several people here know my love of Will Young. Some of them know it and grimace. :p But, I like his voice and his music nonetheless. It was just upon looking at Google on Monday that I found out that he has a compilation album coming on the 16th. Called "The Hits", it features two new songs and a lot of good songs from his first four (yes, four) studio albums since winning (UK's) Pop Idol in 2002. (I'm guessing some bristle at him *because* he was on Pop Idol. No matter.) :p

A kindly soul shared one of the new songs (thank you, lavender sky!) and I will wait for next week to get the other song. I already have all the other songs to be released.

Now, as for birth rates in Australia (this tied to another blog by the lovely Australian earwig *lol*)...

The video to Will Young's "Hopes and Fears":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAgXIaqgnNM.

This will be the answer to that pesky issue. *lol* :-)

One more thing, that has been on my mind (and bothering me): I said something in the forum, and I repeat it here because of what I'm seeing of late... My quote: "I am only capable of forgiveness... for those capable of remorse, whether or not they say "I'm sorry". Some are incapable of remorse." Normally I end on a happy note. Maybe in the next blog.

Enjoy the song, and thanks for reading.

Them:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXgt_Aol4NA

I blame the Australian earwig with the new glasses. :p

Today was a good day. Didn't do the second batch of laundry, and didn't go get my lunch for the week (I can do that stuff later); but, I did get to chat to three people who I really care about.

Funny, was talking about 80's music with someone, and thought of this (in the context of warm nights, which I am not experiencing now given the cold temps here).

This was inspired by one friend, and I dedicate it to yet another. Oddly, they probably live no more than 1 hr away from each other.

So today was a good day, hey. :)

GN all. xxx

Saturday, November 07, 2009, 7:32:59 PM- Soup... and Other Things
1) Contrary to popular belief, I am sometimes not a very good friend to people. Sometimes I bring it on myself.

2) D'éisteas leis an nuacht TG4 go raibh taithí agam ar an teanga labhartha, ach ní thuigim móran di fós. Teastaíonn uaim ag foghlaim is sia. B'fheidir go luath a thiocfar mé. Níl a fhios agam...

3) Today will be a light day, just laundry and not much else.

4) Instead of "soup making photos", I made a small video instead. I did write down the recipe (posted elsewhere off-site), but this will give an indication of how I made it.

http://www.newbienudes.com/A/1204/785191000r.wmv

Well, I'm glad it's a light day because I don't know if it's a good one yet. Doesn't feel like one.

But, thanks for reading.

Saturday, November 07, 2009, 3:56:11 AM- A Promise
He asked, and I promised, so instead of the soup I promised I'd blog (and will do tomorrow), I'm blogging this instead:

There is a father somewhere in the Midwest who is worried about his daughter and missing her. This aren't great, but they're getting better. I know she'll be home soon.

That's all I have to say.

Monday, November 02, 2009, 5:47:54 AM- Thinking... And Not Just About Soup
I went to the market today with the intention of making *pumpkin* soup. On the day right after Halloween, they managed to purge every pumpkin. So, I had to "trade down" and get butternut squash instead, and made soup from that. I do this soup twice a year. It came out better than before.

Pics to follow tomorrow, maybe.

On my way back, this song came on, and I was thinking about someone. This will be as "open" as I get in my thoughts about them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkFgam5jJGo

So, back to my little corner I go. Survived the clock change, was recharged by not one, but two people I haven't talked to in a while, and now is the start of another work week.

Enjoy the song, watch this space for the soup, and thanks for reading.

And to Person Two... :)

Sunday, November 01, 2009, 1:57:01 AM- Weekend Randoms
1) Open Enrollment* just closed at work. Last year, I didn't do it and had a nasty surprise from my previous health insurance provider. So, this year, the first day it was available. November will be my first dental visit in too long. Hopefully, I'll save some money this year.

2) You have no idea how much heat actually means to you until you have to replace your furnace. *sigh* But, it had to be done.

3) My grandmother got a nice visit from the daughter of a family friend. She hadn't seen the daughter in almost 30 years (she, the daughter, lives in the area), and if things work out my grandmother will get to see her friend over Thanksgiving. I hope so. What's more, the visit was on my grandmother's birthday, so I know she had a good day this year.

4) I got an email (not a PM, but a real email) on Wednesday. Ever since, I've been a walking erection. I will have to thank him properly (yet again).

5) I think my co-worker finally got the hint about her "helpfulness" being channeled appropriately and not overstepping her bounds. Friday was the last straw, and we'll see if this solution works. She *did*, up until Friday, seem to back off a bit.

5) The leaves have turned, and are now falling off. I've wanted to get out on the weekends and get photos of the colour. It's rained every weekend the past three weeks! It didn't rain today, and might actually be sunny (!) on Sunday.

6) Thosaigh mé an teanga Ghaeilge a foghlaim arís. Tá sí uaim á tuiscint gan foclóir, ach fós níl agam ann.

7) I am looking forward to the extra hour of sleep tonight. One clock in my room has that feature, but it changed today, so all day it's been an hour off. Tomorrow it will be "on time".

And that, item seven, is sometimes what it's all about: given time, things will right themselves. If you're lucky.

Hope all had a good Halloween, and All Saints' Day and Samhain.
(Go mbeadh an Oíche Samhna agaibh, agus an tSamhain shona daoibh!)

Thanks for reading/Buíochas leibh as bhur léamh.
