Wow the site is frighteningly fast now. We have put on some dedicated servers for premium users too - so they now have their own dedicated super speedy place on the net.

We have also improved the way we balance the load between all the servers - and this seems to also have added to the insane speeds the site is now reaching.

This concludes project speed demon and we are now moving back to new features - stay tuned.

"any hope to speed up the turnaround time on conversion of the oversized videos? or better yet, increase the maximum size allowed .. or have some sort of automatic processing in place that can put the big video files into a queue for resizing without the need for human intervention .. some videos have been waiting on hold for months.

hard drive memory also would seem to be pretty cheap .. maybe allow bigger video files and have a trimming algorithm that deletes videos that nobody has watched for, say, 8-12 months."

Friday, June 8, 2007, 8:29:14 AM- The need for speed!

Ohh yeah baby the site is humming now - we have deployed the majority of the new servers at the new data centre and it feels good!

The order was placed end of March and delivery of all the servers took longer than we expected, but the result seems to have been worth the wait!

Hats off to NN-J who has pretty much exclusively worked on this project!

Anyway - we still have more to tweak as the new servers bed in so things are only going to get faster!

I want to hear how much it's improved for you so post a comment here or on the thread in Site Announcements.

Monday, May 14, 2007, 12:38:40 AM- Possible issue with our advertising partner?

Hi,

We use Adbrite among others to show the text ads on the site. These ads are harmless but the same company has allowed flash ads to appear on some of it's customers sites, and some advertisers were taking advantage of this to open other sites.

So although it never affected us, some anti-virus companies have put Adbrite on an alert list.

I want to know - have any of you that use Trend-Mirco PC Cillin ever seen this when coming to NN?
